Manufacturers always indicate the maximum power the fitting can handle. It is important that the total consumption of the light source does not exceed the maximum power of the fitting.

The IP rating is a standardised rating system that indicates the degree of protection the device provides against the ingress of solid objects (such as dust) and liquids (such as water). This refers to the expected life of the light source and is expressed in total burning hours, sometimes supplemented by "switch cycles". This indicates how many times you can switch the lamp on and off before it needs replacing.

The maximum allowable electrical consumption of the product under normal conditions, expressed in watts (W).

This indicates which electrical connection the product operates on. A lot of lamps can simply be connected to the mains voltage coming from the sockets in your home (230V). But LED lights do not always work on the mains voltage supplied at home. Just think of LED strips that often work on 24Vdc or LEDs that need to be fed with a constant current. It is important to provide the right electrical connection, otherwise your lighting may break down.

This indicates whether the brightness of this product can be adjusted using a dimmer. This does not mean that a dimmer is included.

This is the way the product is installed, on or in a surface. With surface mounting, you install the lighting directly against a surface. Recessed lighting is installed in a surface, so the lighting does not protrude above the installation surface. Sometimes we speak of semi-recessed lights. Wire springs are used for hollow walls such as suspended plaster ceilings. Blade springs are used for solid walls such as vaulted ceilings. In many cases, blade springs can be used for both solid and hollow walls. Manufacturers often designate wire springs as S1 and use the designation S2 for blade springs.

This tells you whether the manufacturer allows the product to be installed outdoors. Lighting for outdoor use has better resistance to elements such as rain, heat, UV or even corrosion. These fixtures always have a higher IP rating to prevent water damage.
