Many people confuse classic lighting with old fashioned lighting. However there's a very wide array of stylish classic lighting. Classic is not the same as boring. Traditional is a more appropriate way to describe these fixtures. Traditional, both in design and materials.
In classic lighting design, the same materials reoccur frequently, being metal, glass and fabric. Crystal was also a common material back in the day, but it seems to have lost its magic. Lacquered materials and plastics have no place in classic lighting.
Classic fixtures often reach back to traditional shapes. Just think of the typical "Base with shade" for floor and table lamps. As for pendants, the chandelier is without a doubt the most classic design, even though there are some modern variants on the market.
