&tradition (AndTradition) is a relatively young Danish designer brand that was established in 2010 by Martin Kornbek Hansen. Inspired by the Danish designer legacy, Kornbek Hansen wants to use honest and quality designs to appeal to a new generation of conscious consumers.
Although &tradition is relatively new, its designer lighting and furniture dates from the 1930s to today. The company looks to designer icons of the past and the present. New or unfamiliar design talents also find their way to &tradition. For example, &tradition works with young designers like Benjamin Hubert and Sofie Refer.
&tradition’s lighting is characterised by Danish modesty. The key idea is these products are made with respect for nature and raw materials. The products are designed to have the smallest possible impact on the environment. As much as possible, raw materials are worked with and where the boundaries of the production process are continually shifted.
&tradition combines the nostalgic value of traditions with the finesse of modern designs. Contemporary designs are produced with traditional materials using traditional methods. Designer classics and nostalgic elements are transformed into modern designer lighting.
For example, the beautiful lighting in the Copenhagen series was inspired by the traditional gas lamps found in Danish ports. The Flowerpot series is based on an iconic design by Verner Panton from the Flower Power period.
